[kde-linux] Save desktop setup without exiting XServer

When you exit the XServer by logging out or turning off the computer, KDE will 
save the layout of most windows.

Is there a way to save it without exiting?  I'm usually logged in for several 
days at a time (sometimes weeks) and I'd like to periodically save the desktop 
setup in case I'm logged out involuntarily (power surge, XServer crash).
