[kde-linux] Correct way to remove USB Drive from KDE-Linux system

Is there a "correct" / safe way to remove a USB drive from the system?

Windows supplies a "remove device" icon in the system tray which you 
respectfully ask
if it is OK to remove a device and it either give syou the OK or not. IN 
KDE / Linux I
see no equivalent function, but simply pulling the device out of the USB 
port seems to
result in varying degrees of success - eg sometimes it seems necessary 
to unmount / mount
again before such a device can be read. Sometimes I just can't get it to 
read it again until
a re-boot.
