[Kde-kiosk] profile not taking

Been using the kiosk setup and SLES9, very nice:

But, having problems on one of my gentoo servers and getting the profile
to take.

Gentoo recent
KDE 3.3.1
kiosktool .9.3

Created my profile, all my users belong to a primary group called
students, setup kiosktool with a profile called students, group students
to profile student.

Logged in as a student, and kiosktool-kdedirs did not show the profile.
Read a message saying primary group had a bug applying profile (message
from oct), so added a script in startkde to set KDEDIRS based on primary
group to profile.

Now logged in a student, and kiosktool-kdeirs showed the correct
profile, but still no lockdown.

Not sure where to go from here for debugging, here's some info I see
asked for in the archives.

kiosktool-kdedirs:
