I too employ such a hack (in fact I think I got it from this list :)

xmodmap -e "pointer = 1 6 7 4 5"

to disable middle and right mouse buttons, but leave the scroll functionality.

Yeah, that's what I was really hoping for, but it seems that such a beast does 
not exist at this time.
