[Kde-kiosk] Debian issues - saving and using profiles

I am running Debian Sarge (new install last week) and trying to set up user directories for a small school lab. I think this program will allow me to pre-set user desktops based on group membership. But I can't see how to make kde use the group membership.

Perhaps something else is not set  up correctly. It would seem that something in /usr/bin/startkde should somehow refer to /etc/kde-user-profiles or specify something from /etc/kde-profile. Did I miss something?
