Heihei,

I have kiosktool 0.8 compiled on a completely fresh Slackware 10.0
installation with an upgrade to KDE3.3.0 from the KDE homepage and an
official Slackware upgrade package to QT3.3.3.

Today was the first time I really used the kiosktool to set up some profiles
for some small school systems to test bit how it works, so I cannot say if
they are new problems, or old, or if I just understand something wrong on how
it should work. Would be nice if someone could help me.

I have a Linux group "students" and "teachers" and created for them also
profiles in kiosktool in "/etc/kde-profile/students/" and
"/etc/kde-profile/teachers/" and mapped these profiles to the linux groups
students and teachers.

I have started to set up the profile for the students:
Desktop Icons --> [x] Lock down all Desktop icons
When you now choose "Preview Desktop Icons" the KDE Crash handler comes up. I
have attached the backtrace to this eMail. The same happens also when I try
to login with one user. There it also crashes.

I have also used the button "Setup Desktop Icons" and created a
konqbrowser.desktop file. I went then into my user account "klaus" and most
of my settings from the kiosktool seem also to work, until I got bit confused
because "klaus" is in the group "users" and just in addition also in the
groups "teachers" and "students". What profile should now be used for
"klaus"? The default, students or teachers profile? *hmmmmm* Well, but then I
have deleted this konqbrowser.desktop from the Desktop and it got not
displayed anymore, but it still exists in ~klaus/Desktop/ but I cannot get it
shown on the Desktop anymore. In ~klaus/Desktop/.directory I couldn't find
anything about it.

What kind of icons are meant by "System wide Desktop icons"? The "Home" on the
desktop seems not to be one, or?

Well, but the most confusing thing I realized was when I started creating new
accounts for students. I used "$ adduser" to create a new user and added him
only to the group "students". When I now wanted to log in into this new user
the KDE Wizard started and then none of the settings I took for the students
profile worked. I changed some values in kiosktool again, but nothing took
action for this user in the group students. Do I need to add something to the
user's kde config that he also uses the kiosktool profiles, or something like
that?

Well, I also have some other issues or wishlists like restricting the
Splashscreen, the whole control center or such things, but better first when
I get it so far running. Thanks in advanced!!!

Thank you very much!!!

Regards,
Klaus
