From my limited knowledge, the .po files are generated by a script which
parses the .desktop files. Another script (or maybe the same) parses
the committed, desktop.po files in svn and adds the translated strings
back into the desktop files. In other words, server magic, is how it
works. Translators should only have to commit to the .po files, and the
rest is done by little elves.
