In general, DNG file contains two sets of metadata:
 - EXIF (MakerNotes) block copied from original RAW
 - DNG-specific metadata (color matrices, black level and so on)

I guess,  Adobe uses DNG-specific block, but other tools may use EXIF block on
already processed data.
