[Kde-i18n-fry] Wat zijn de vorderingen

What is not working? I have frequently found it easier to connect to the 
Internet with Linux than with Windows.

For quite a lot of time, very little happened in this mailing list. I think, 
it should be advertised more. 
1) http://www.kde.nl/frysk/discussiegroep.html should encourage people to 
subscribe to the list instead of just inviting people to post to the list. 
2) A google search for kde-i18n-fry at kde.org only lists 4 web references. So I 
guess, someone should write to dutch Linux forums and to Frisian language 
institutions to spread info, that this list exists.
3) I have been watching kde in frisian since we started KDE op Platt (Low 
Saxon) about a year ago. I noticed that someone provided a Frisian word list 
in http://www.kde.nl/frysk/wurdlist.html 
From my experiences with starting KDE op Platt, I would say that this is 
absolutely sufficient for starting. 
* Take the following files:

* Store the files somewhere on your computer. 
* Do an intial round of translating whatever you can. 
* Put them on a publicly available web server (kde.nl would be good, but any 
server would do) 
* write to the list, that a first rough draft is available
* discuss the translation in this list.
* do more translating (as a group)
* repeat this, until you have 75% translated (90% in the case of kdelibs.pot)
* when that is done, write to KDE that you are ready for an initial checkin.

Hint:
1) the only file that is really difficult is kdelibs.pot. The rest is easy. 
The files contain a lot of program names from the KDE-Menu. Most of them will 
not need translation. The work looks bigger than it really is.
2) All this can be achieved within one month of work, given the fact that the 
word list is already complete.
3) You do not have to be really good at Frisian to start. I, for myself, was 
able to understand Low Saxon when I started KDE op Platt, but I was neither 
able to speak or write it. In the beginning, I had to look up each word to 
make sure that it is correct. I did quite a number of mistakes. The other 
participants from the list helped me to correct them. Quite a number of 
mistakes are still in it. Over time I have found out that knowledge of Low 
Saxon in Germany has deteriorated so much, that none of the others in the 
List noticed these mistakes. Only months later, when I finally bought a Low 
Saxon grammar, I was pointed to a lot of things that none of us knew.
