Hello KDE translation coordinators,
I am writing to urgently request the addition of Sicilian (ISO 639-3: scn)
language support to GCompris.
BACKGROUND:
I attempted to contribute a Sicilian translation via GitHub PR #300 in June
2025 -
The GCompris maintainer (petitlapin) redirected me to follow the official
KDE translation process
Issue tracking: https://invent.kde.org/education/gcompris/-/issues/70
I have an organized Telegram team ready to work on this translation
immediately.
URGENCY: The GCompris 26.0 release has a string freeze deadline on January
31st, 2026 (only 24 days away).
To be included in this release, we need to achieve at least 70% translation
completion before this date( i hope)
TECHNICAL DETAILS:
Language code: scn (Sicilian) - Sicilian is already included in glibc
locale definitions
I have previous experience with FOSS translations (contributed to Blender
Italian translation)
Our team on telegram is committed to maintaining this translation long-term
(>70% completion)
REQUEST:
Given the tight deadline, could you please:
1. Expedite the approval process for adding Sicilian (scn) to the KDE
translation system
2. Provide access to the translation files or templates so we can start
working immediately
3. Guide me through the official procedure to add a new language
4. Confirm which additional KDE files we need to translate
I am ready to start working today and my team is standing by.
Thank you for your time and support! Best regards, Paolo Lo Bello
