My the message is not clear enough, so let me rephrase what I meant.

For libsolid2 (frameworks 5) we can add api to PortableMediaPlayer but 
in the meantime we have to give a solution for applications like Amarok.

So, detect it with libsolid and handle it with libmtp -- m-p-i -- ipod 
seems good enough to me.
