IIRC the explanation was that solid has already a well-defined and stable api, 
and there aren't too many things to do wrong in a backend implementation that 
basically just queries D-Bus similar to the other backends. So early testing 
in trunk would be better than only reviewing it outside.

Anyways, I'll re-check with ervin and move it out from trunk as soon as I know 
more.

Now that I have double-checked... It is actually written on techbase [1]. Down 
at the bottom. It's actually pretty small. I guess I would have missed it 
too...
