It really depends. I think that Kevin meant was that for Plasma you need to
have the Plasma application to run, or you'll see nothing and third party
applications won't be able to use it. It even makes more sense by the fact
that it's GUI based.

For Solid, well we've choosen to provide some helper apps, but they could be
completely done outside of the "Solid umbrella". There's only the kded
modules that should be kept with the framework but it's invisible to the user
anyway.

That's where I disagree (and hence why I'm still pondering for a change).

The Solid or Phonon names particularly matters to the users IMHO. It's a nice
name to show that we're addressing a particular problem and that it'll
(hopefully) shine in KDE 4.

On the developer point of view the process is generally not the same. You work
on an app and you need a feature from the kdelibs... You'll search in the API
for something having a name related to the task (in our case hardware
handling). Note how the Qt doc and api doesn't even mention the cool
technology names advertised ("interview", "arthur", etc.).

That said I'm not against a change, if it was just for myself I hardly care if
the namespace is Solid, KDEHW, or even something else (btw Kevin might be
right, IIRC thiago tried to propose a namespace scheme, but I don't remember
how it ended). I'm just not sure which choice is the best for third party
developers.

Regards.
