Will this gain much?  I have made one or two small changes to
*.svgz files (in Inkscape), to remove run-time errors, and have
found that even a small change can cause quite large diffs.

Ditto with other generated files, such as *.ui, wrt Designer changes.

Luckily, neither kind of file changes frequently (as compared to code).
