Didn't test it, but my brain-built-in C++ parser does not expect any
problems with this on other compilers. So please feel free to commit
this. (Perhaps with a comment why the extra parentheses are needed.)

P.S. I'm well aware of clang, and I eagerly wait for Linux
distributions to start using it instead of gcc.
