Perhaps: "The game starts when either player presses one of his or her
direction keys!" or even "The game starts when one player presses a
direction key!"  Is it "unfair" if you press one of the other player's keys
and send them off in a bad direction? ... ;-)

Maybe I have mis-read all this.  Should it be "The game starts when
each player has pressed one of their direction keys."?
