Actually I like this one best.
The only thing I still not sure about is where to put it? In a game area? That 
might not be suitable for each and every game.
Perhaps in status bar?

Anoter option:
Put in status bar short message, something like "Hello, USERNAME! To change 
your nick, go to Settings->change nick...".
Hmm, no, seems too intrusive :).

Anyway, I like your second option, Burkhard...
Now we need to find a way how to implement this so it would look cute and 
natural ;).
