I had a similar issue on my 7 year old laptop running -CURRENT where kwin
compositing features were not working, or even showing up in System Settings
after updating to plasma6. My high-performance GPU, a GTX 1060, is miraculously
still supported by the latest NVidia drivers, however, and I also use
graphics/nvidia-drm-kmod since I have a hybrid Intel/NVidia GPU situation going
on, so not sure how much of this will help.
Since you're using -STABLE, like with -CURRENT, make sure you have
rebuilt/reinstalled *all* of your kernel modules from ports against your
installed kernel. I really don't trust pre-built packages for this, even with
recent efforts to improve the situation.
I also had to add the following to /boot/loader.conf and do a reboot:
hw.nvidiadrm.modeset="1"
