I'm happy to create a new bug report for my problem if its unrelated to this
one but I too was getting the misnamed pyc files when I tried building pyqt5
against python 3.6.1, but then I saw gdinolt has apparently got pyqt5 built
against python 3.4 without any extra patches so I wanted to try that first,
hence my previous replies.

My ports knowledge is sadly lacking right now but I'm sure I'll be much more
useful round here after I've found my feet.
