The card is a winfast PX7800GT providing openGL with dual DVI. The crash  
problem was not present before upgrading to 3.4.5 so I need some convincing 
before assuming it is the video card.

It seems more likely that it is something introduced in 3.4.5 or some 
configuration necessities with which I have not complied!!! The latter is more 
likely than the former!

 That being said it supports nvidia sli technology and nvidia nview.
