Got it no working with the external server, tho problems with internal 
seem to be mysql-related.
Logged in as regular user akonadi complains about not being able to 
connect via the mysql socket, which is on nfs mounted home then, and I 
didn't figure out how to move it to /tmp or /var/tmp.
As root with home dir local, it doesn't find the mysql-bin.index file. 
Search on google for that error showed a bunch of clueless threads.
