i discovered the problem to be related to a bug in the ffmpeg in the ports 
collection: it has been fixed in svn, so i attached a patch, put it in 
/usr/ports/multimedia/ffmpeg/files and rebuild ffmpeg (maybe also the ports 
that depend on it... i still haven't done it and it works)
i'll eventually send this in a pr

to record the desktop you also need a little modification to ffmpeg Makefile, 
to enable x11grab: i attached the Makefile i use, it adds the option X11GRAB, 
turn it on!

i forgot to say i didn't include dvgrab in dependencies, no port for it, but 
i'm going to write it soon. since i don't have firewire i can't test the 
thing... can anybody confirm that record from cam isn't working?
also... ladspa and ladspa plugins: are they the same thing? i still haven't 
checked...
