I am not seeing this. My results:

Test 1: create 2M connections
started at 09:34:53
finished at 09:35:01

 I have noticed some definite slowness to KDE4, but it is not in startup but 
in actual performance. JuK starts up just as fast as any other program. In 
terms of pure Qt4 ports, I have seen no slowdown at all (though there are 
some definite bugs in 4.4.0).
