[kio] : khelpcenter no longer works on OS X

Any suggestions on how to do that with something from a plugin that's loaded by a helper process that's itself launched on-demand?
Is there a way to start kioslave with help.so or ghelp.so from the commandline, in a meaningful way?
Remember, gdb doesn't work on OS X.
