Although overall I like the feature Mirko is proposing. I figured out
something regarding that statement of mine just above... For the specific case
at hand, assuming we'd have a tier 0[*] and we don't want third parties to
bother about it either while cloning the repo or while getting a tarball...
Might be a stupid idea but... isn't it something we could inject using git
submodules? It looks like a proper tool for the task.
Opinions on that?

[*] I'm not against that idea per se (never been), I see the value in it. But
if we go for it I want to make sure it's transparent for third parties.
