It is not about necessity, it is about convenience. Of course you can go to 
extragear.kde.org and find the apps maintainer, send him/her an e-mail and 
ask for the branch/tag. But that is hardly convenient. Since Helio is a 
packager (correct?) he sees things from a different point of view. Why not 
help the packagers, it is a small effort.
