Yes, the attached screenshot in this bug ticket looks exactly like the image I 
get on my system.

After setting LANG=C cantor hangs with "Initializing session". If I hit the 
abort button, I end up with no session window.

Executing 5+5; also leads to a crash. I can see \begin{eqnarray*}... before 
the crash. Here the relevant frames for this case (don't have the debug
