I know little about the Kalzium project, but regarding SI Units you may wish 
to refer to the worldwide official document: The BIPM SI Brochure, available 
in English at www1.bipm.org/utils/en/pdf/si-brochure.pdf.

A quick & simple patch on your definition might go like: SI Unit--A 
measurement unit in the Système International d’Unités (International System 
of Units).

The science of measurement (metrology) defines all such related stuff and you 
may find more information than you'd ever want starting with the VIM 
(International Vocabulary of Metrology) at 
www.bipm.org/utils/common/documents/jcgm/JCGM_200_2008.pdf.
