I couldn't answer earlier. Too much to do :) Sorry for delay.

Anne-Marie, Albert:

I have some ideas how to create KEduca powerful tool for CAI but most of it require an interference to architecture. I will wait with them until a proper maintainer will be found.

 My ideas:
   1.) Patterns
As a math coach I often prepare tests in KEduca. When I prepare test of e.g. fractions, elements of algebra I have to type numerical values in each exercise. There should be a possibility to create "patterns" of exercise. "Pattern" would be just a set of relations used to generate the questions.
Mention the following problem:

We want to prepare a test of adding fractions. We don't have to care a lot of denominator. We care of numerators to avoid complication. Both numerators and denominator must be integers. Let each numerator meet limitation: 0 < num < 20 and let common denominator is between 2 and 40 and (numerator1+numerator2 < 30). Using these patterns KEduca should let me create many exercises without an effort. Also it would make me sure that each student will get diverse set of exercises. Of course using patterns can be also used in checking (?, proving? ) the student's answers.

  2.) Alternatives
Mention the following problem:
We want to create a test about the country we live. We assume that student has to answer to 10 questions in 4 issues( 2 - language, 2 - geography, 5 - culture, 1 - national flag). We also have a stake of questions to each issue, but software should ask only randomly taken 2 questions about language, 2 about geo, etc...

Another ideas are more advanced and require rebuild KEduca's engine, but if you're interest - let me know :)

You asked me about mentor. I really don't know. Hope Math will answer my mail. I don't know anyone (except of you) in KDE, but hope that together we'll find one :) It would be pity to lost a opportunity of improving KEduca during SoC because of lack of mentor :/

Short off-topic. On Monday I came back from CeBIT (the European greatest IT fair) where I have seen KEduca-similar, but commercial, product developed by "Link&Link Software". It's possibilities doesn't seem to be much greater than KEduca's, although it costs over EU 1000/single licence. In my opinion KEduca has an opportunity to become a one of the best examination software (even if we mention commerce application), but firstly it has to be well-known and available. Hope I will help in it.

 Best
 Adam Rakowski
