maybe this was the reason for your issues ;)
To be serious: I am running an odler verison (0.97pre1?)
on a Skolelinux network (one workstation, 14 thin clients).
Maybe there is a chance to plug in a DebianEdu main server with samba 
support and LTSP. In this case you could dual boot your xp clients via 
network (as thin or diskless clients) and use italc on either system.
