[kde-edu]: development of math application

Hi!
I'd appreciate an app like that. But I think it's quite an effort.
Yes, Matlab combines math and electronics and much more. But it is really
complex. This would be a project for many years...
So maybe it would be easier to look at something complete. Especially
scientific tools should be seperated into library and gui parts. Matlab for
example does have a shell version. That is great for scripts and limited
enviroments.
Also supporting different guis would be good, especially for big apps as that.
I guess it would be much more productive to use existing apps and build upon
them.

Have you ever looked at scilab?
www.scilab.org
It's gui is ugly as hell, (the last time I looked at it), but I has almost all
of what you want. It has some impressive demos. Even a sort of simulink is
there. And it supports different platforms (win/mac/linux).

I would really suggest that you give scilab a great gui. Make a KSkylab ;)

Kind regards,
Frederik

PS:
Copying all of Matlab might be difficult regarding to copyright.

By the way - I think gpl and java is possible, not sure. And java will be
gpl'ed soon, I think.
