I think that it will be good choice, at least until someone invents
something really better. I've drawn this icons, you can see it here:
http://edu.kde.org/step/pics/polygons1.png (I understand it needs to
be drawn better, this is temporarily variant).

Thanks a lot for your suggestion !

I've also thought about depicting typical objects between which given
force acts (for example Sun for gravitational force, falling apple for
weight force, electron (circle with letter 'e' in it ?) for coulomb
force) and an arrow, but I'm not sure how well it will look on small
icons (or may be I should increase icon size ?).
