How to get beyond the (requirement of a password) in accessing Time-shift?

Hello, Ive attempted to communicate with anyone that might shed some
light on how I can get around the ID stuff but no response? I purchased
a "Live disk" (which has Time-shift on it) however, I'm new to Linux
having defected from Windows 10. I recently, had a power outage and upon
powering up to start my workday, strange occurrences started happening,
until I incurred a "black screen" and couldn't fully boot up.  As I'm
sure you know, Time-shift, has the "time-point" allowing a User to go
back and thus recover and restore the OS to a workable status and save,
what otherwise, could result in a "crashed" or corrupted system. I found
Time-shift, in the Utilities folder and have it on my desktops
taskbar--  when I attempt to launch it, (the password crap pops up) and
I use the same password I did before the electric power went out but it
won't let me in, with a dialog that says, "wrong password."  I
currently, know some (code) but very little--  I'm learning, ie., "sudo
apt-get "  "  "  "...  I would appreciate any help you might render.

James
