Bug ID: 384966
Summary: Please improve the docu for how to build qtwebkit from
source - see content of this bug report
Product: docs
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: docs.kde.org

Target Milestone: ---
Hi guys (and gals perhaps),
There is a docu ... problem? Hmm.
I came to this site:
https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Build_from_source#Missing_Qt5WebKitWidgetsConfig.cmake
>From the source code aka "new plasma release". So I want to
compile it. I actually managed to compile most of kde KF and
plasma. But qtwebkit gives me issues. This issue is not about
the problem though - this is about the KDE wiki:
If you look at the above page:
https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Build_from_source#Missing_Qt5WebKitWidgetsConfig.cmake
You can see this:
It can be fixed by installing the dependeny
sudo apt-get install libqt5webkit5-dev
That does not help me in any way. Firstly, I don't use
debian so I am not sure why the wiki is only for debian?
We can no longer use kde on non-debian or what?
But secondly and more importantly, it would be nice if
more information would be provided. I figured that the
webkit part probably has to do with ... chromium, which
is a bit weird if true since KDE would selectively favour
Google but this is an aside. My gripe is that the above
information is useless to me.
So my suggestion is:
- Please someone who has more information (did Gentoo
users die out or what), could more information be added
that explains a bit more and says as to what exactly is
needed? As far as I know, the webkit part isn't part of
the KF foundation nor plasma tarball releases, since I
compiled most of them and don't have the the webkit part;
and if it is part of qt 5.x then perhaps someone could
say so and show the commandline switch too. But I think
it may be somewhere else ... can it be integrated into
the whole kde stack? A few source packages require it,
I forgot which ones but I remember that I had the above
error and could not continue ... don't recall which
packages it were.
PS: Component entry only allowed me to pick docs.kde.org,
should perhaps also include community.kde.org - no idea
who runs community.kde.org? Not the KDE team? Honest
question, I really have no idea right now.
