protect against potential conversion of a NULL CFString

This is a "can't hurt if it ain't fix anything" patch that should prevent the
kind of crash we saw in the 1 backtrace of meinproc4 crashing that we have.
If indeed it was due to a NULL CFStringRef, and not a corrupt one ...
