[kde-doc-english] Downloading

Good morning,

I have tried downloading programs from the internet , but unfortunately I 
can only get the program to the desktop.  How do I get it downloaded into my 
computer?  I really like using the kubuntu system, and other then the 
downloading issue it is very easy to use.

Also is it possible to use a program that is a DOS/windows executable 
program/
