Yeah, though to be fair, Fedora also defaults to not using SWAP
file/partition. So I guess if someone modifies their system, Fedora
expectations are that the user know what they're doing.

There are talks about unifying both ZRAM and ZSWAP, which would
completely alleviate the problem being discussed, but I would not
expect anything notable to be happening in 2-3 years in that regard.
That said, every kernel release there are lots refactoring and
optimizations, including for SWAP (example for last released kernel as
of writing the words

the most recent kernel certainly helps as well. You have a recent
kernel in Fedora, but Idk for the OP because they don't seem to have
mentioned their distro (unless I missed it).
