You may want to try Sway [1] instead. For me it occupies 600 MB in RAM at startup. 1200 MB after
launching Chromium with a single tab.

I have 4 GB of RAM, and that wasn't enough for KDE either.
That was some time ago.
I gave up the hope of resource usage to improve.
