Hi,

I won't go into detail about the history and merits of Wayland vs X11,
there's plenty of articles, blog posts, and conference talks out there
that can do this much better than me.

I will point you to
https://community.kde.org/Plasma/X11_Known_Significant_Issues though.
Most of the items in that list are unfeasible to fix under X11.

As described in
https://blogs.kde.org/2025/11/26/going-all-in-on-a-wayland-future/
Plasma will drop X11 in 6.8.

XLibre is not and will not be supported by Plasma in any way. Not only
is it driven by people who demonstrate a lack of ability to properly
maintain such a project (and show rather questionable world views), it
also will not address any of the fundamental architectural flaws in X11.

Cheers

Nico
