Hello Ralf, I don't know if you saw but I began with the cygwin packaged 
scribus and ran into errors at the point of just trying to run the 
following:

   253  cd ../scribus-1.2.1cvs/
   254  exit
   255  history | tail -n 30
   256  patch
   257  cd src/scribus-1.2.1cvs/
   258  make -f Makefile.dist
...
acinclude.m4:4681: warning: underquoted definition of AC_PATH_QTOPIA

Which upon encountering that failure I thought I would at least try 
applying the patch, even though I didn't expect the error message was 
related, and this is the output from that:

cboothe at IT-staff ~/src/scribus-1.2.1cvs
$ patch -p0 < ../scribus-1.2cvs-cygwin-2004-10-23.diff
patching file scribus.desktop

So I pressed cntl-c.

I know you've already helped so much, but do you have any ideas about 
what the problem may be here?
