Keyboard input not working in kde?

Hi,

Has anybody else had this problem...?
The mouse works fine.
 From Windows 2000 command:
startx -rootless &
Kde loads up and works fine: Except that is if I try to type anything, 
consol, kwritem, anywhere, there is no keyboard input and no screen output.
