embarassingly enough: not sure. I just followed the cygwin-on-kde installation
instructions and used whatever kmail came with it.

Sure (is that a surprise?). Admittedly, I only tested it with a few folders
and a few messages so far, but I intend to give it a bit of a workout soon
(with a few gigabytes of email ...)

actually, I already posted a corresponding "wish" on the kmail bug tracking
site
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=74685
would be great to have this ";" <-> "_" character thing configurable...
BTW: I did notice the following bugs/problems:
1.) kmail crashes occasionally when copying files from an IMAP server to a
local maildir folder. Error message:
kmail: Index File 'test1' Version: 60
assertion "mIndexStream != 0" failed: file "kmfoldermaildir.cpp", line 409
*** KMail got signal 6 (Crashing)
(it doesn't always do that, apparently mostly when copying is the first thing
I do after program start - when the target folder hasn'T been visited yet?)
2.) It doesn't always seem to update the index files correctly. E.g., when I
copy a mail to another folder and then visit the folder, the mail does not
appear even though it is correctly put into the cur/ folder.
Quitting kmail, deleting that folders .index.* files, starting kmail and
visiting the folder aleviates the problem.
Similar behavior with the outbox; sent messages stick around in the index and
show as "No Subject" - ghost emails, even though the actual file in cur/ is
no longer there.
Cheers,
Holger
PS: just a few directories ...
