Hi,
I tried with "-dsp" and it worked (but the VC++ file vcvars32.bat must be executed first). Thanks for the tip, now I have vcproj files.
 
The registry keys are good, except it is HKLM and not HKCU. Note that it is also valid for VC++ 8 (VC++ Express 2005 Beta : http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/express/visualc/default.aspx).
I don't think there is an evaluation version of the IDE (the compiler is freely available : http://msdn.microsoft.com/visualc/vctoolkit2003/).
But you can try it "online" (!) : http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/productinfo/trial/default.aspx. I never tested, I don't know how it works.
However you can download VC++ 8, it should handle vcproj files.

The configure-*.bat files just call configure.bat and this batch just
calls bin\configure.exe with arguments you give to configure-*.bat /
configure.bat. So calling configure.bat with argument "-dsp" should
enable dsp-file generation. If this won't work (I assume it will work
with VC++ 7.0 and 7.1 but not with higher versions) we must patch qmake
/ look if there is a newer version / patch around.
Do you have one of those registry-keys in your registry:
"HKCU\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\7.0\Setup\VC\ProductDir";
"HKCU\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\7.1\Setup\VC\ProductDir";

Is there an evalutation version of msvc 2003 around where I can test this?
What qmakespec do you use? I hope "win32-msvc.net" :)

Calling bin\configure.exe with argument "-verbose" gives you some debug
output. There you should find something like

If qmake isn't called with "-t vcapp" then our configure.exe has a
problem. Otherwise qmake can't handle vc++ 2003.
