I know nothing about touchpads, just tried to port it to KF5 :-)
I have adapted the logic to set shortcuts from ktouchpadenabler and
attached in this bug report -
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=342629
Could you take a look if this is okay/sufficient?
