why kdelibs?

I thought advantage of KDE was all the neat infrastructure it offered: KIO,
phonon, nepomuk, akonadi, etc.  Along the lines of
http://kde.org/developerplatform/ .

Disclaimer - I'm not a programmer.  So maybe I'm completely off.
