(for kmail) i initially agreed with aaron on that some mails before...

this here's only about: what do we do with the "clear line" button in general
(display always/on non empty lines/on hover or focus, impacting state
indication, visual noise and usability)
a drawback of a permanent visible icon (aside the clutter) is that users might
click them, figure they do nothing ("i already heard KDE4 is buggy") and just
take them as annoyance.
so you'd have to at least display them disabled (indicating: exist, but
currently w/o use - what's hard to sell without making them too intrusive in
the active state)
