i've been trying to get kmail's composer window into a state where this would
actually be useful.

the only way to get an empty address line is to have content in all the other
lines, so that the empty line is the extra line to enter a new address
(preventing need for an awkward "more.." button)

is this really useful for kmail? are there are other use cases for this?

if there are some real use cases out there, ok, but it would be nice to avoid
api complexity and UI inconsistency if it's just a "because we can" thing.
