It's not only old computers, it's also brand new devices, like netbooks or 
even smaller mobile devices like e.g. the Nokia N810.
So I think we really should care about this.

At FOSDEM I talked with Ade and he said that there are some things in 
plasma/style/window decorations which make KDE4 via remote X, e.g. on thin 
clients, more or less unusable. The issue is gradients and the alpha channel, 
which are not (not widely or not at all ?) supported via remote X.
