Great!  While I am not sure about whether the above checkbox is the right UI, 
what I really want to see is a KDE 4 that *automatically* disables all 
animations when used remotely (i.e. X11 forwarding).  Maybe there are people 
who want to disable/configure that some day, but for now, I think starting on 
the implementation of a desktop-wide efficiency-mode is very beneficial.  
(One could also imagine a "save power when on battery"-automation etc.)

In some weeks, I will have more time and maybe can aid in the implementation / 
testing / discussion.
