You can middle-click in the main window right away, it will have the 
same effect. You can also copy/paste with C-c/C-v (select your URL, copy 
it with C-c, double click on the url in konq, paste yours over it with C-v).

Aside of that, I agree on principle with any effort to trim down konq's 
menus and toolbars :-)
